Album Club

Book clubs are quite common.  Many people enjoy reading books together and then gathering to discuss them.  I certainly do enjoy a good novel, but one thing that I enjoy just a little bit more is a good album.  Therefore, my good friend Peter and I have started a whole new kind of club: An Album Club.  And we welcome you to join us.

Our Album Club works much the same way as a book club does.  Here is how it operates:

  1. At the beginning of the month, we select an album.  We choose albums that are are interesting and unique, or albums that have received glowing reviews or internet hype.  We would like to feature albums both new and old, and from all genres (although I will admit that I am partial to indie rock/pop myself).
  2. All of the members of the club then listen to the album.  We highly encourage you to listen to the album at least one in its entirety.  We also encourage you to give it your full attention and listen to it on as high fidelity musical player as you have.  Multiple listens would also be helpful.  However, we understand that we all have busy lives, so do whatever works best for you, whether it is listening to the music on you way to work or when you exercise or whatever.  There is no right or wrong way to consume your music.
  3. Although we encourage you to purchase each album in order to support the artist and have a high fidelity recording of the music, we understand that this is not always possible.  Therefore, we have created a website in which album club members can stream each month’s album in its entirety for free.  In order to request access to this site, please e-mail
  4. At the end of the month, I will write a post on my blog that gives my thoughts on the album (as will Peter).  We then ask that you all write a little in the comments about your own impressions.  How exactly you write your comments is up to you – it could be long or short, a review on the albums merits and flaws or a piece about how the music made you feel.  We are not asking for a lot, and we welcome any kind participation, no matter how long or short.
  5. We then begin the process again with a new album the next month.

Peter and I have really enjoyed discovering new music and playing the music critic. We hope that you will join us.
